Happy New Year!

Donors Choose Social Media Challenge

donorsDuring the month of October, Nosh With Me will be participating in the DonorsChoose.org’s Social Media Challenge! Donors Choose is a charity that that funds classroom projects in public schools, using the Web to match teacher project requests with donors. Nosh With Me has selected two projects to try to fund.

The first project is requesting 27 copies of I Never Saw Another Butterfly, an incredible collection of poems and pictures written and drawn by children in the Terezin Concentration Camp during World War II. The second project is requesting 20 sets of knives for a culinary class in which many of the students are hoping for scholarships to attend culinary schools after high school.

There are many, many, other projects that need funding, and it would be amazing if we could fund the first two and move on to a third, fourth, or fifth! *So, as an added incentive to give to a good cause, all readers who donate via the Nosh With Me giving page will be entered in a contest to win a dozen cookies, baked in the Nosh With Me kitchen! Donating is easy–simply click on the link in the sidebar (over there to the left, then scroll down) and you’re all set. Let’s help some kids! And if you know of a project you think I should add to the Nosh With Me giving page, please let me know.

*U.S. and Canada only.

Happy New Year!

Chocolate! Contest!

Nosh With Me was nominated for a Death By Chocolate food blogger contest. Both a reader and blogger will win trips for two to Napa to attend a chocolate festival! So go ahead and register as a reader (which enters you in the drawing), then vote for your favorite food blogger (preferably um, me), and maybe we’ll have a chance to chat while we stuff our bellies with chocolate up north!

Looking forward to trying lots of new recipes in 2008, Happy New Year!

Contest Time

I’m in the process of redesigning this blog (see below and click to enlarge) and am having a contest (read: win baked goods)! I’m looking to replace the header image (the coffee cup) with something that better reflects Nosh With Me. I’m going to change the fonts a bit, but I’d like to keep the color scheme, at least for now.

Can’t wait to see them!

Nosh With Me on Facebook

Nosh With Me is now on Facebook. Why? I’m not quite sure, except that some of my favorite food bloggers are there and I was beginning to feel left out. So please stop by and be my friend (fan?). See you there!

Leftover Halloween Candy Cupcakes

My coworkers had some leftover Halloween candy, so I had the brilliant idea of bringing more sugar to the office via leftover Halloween candy cupcakes! Because how can candy and a cupcake together possibly be bad? Well…

I found a recipe for candy cupcakes and it said to chop the candy and stir it into the batter. Since I’m not a huge fan of crunchy cupcakes, I had the brilliant [at the time] idea of chopping the candies into thirds and putting a piece directly in the batter, like I did for the cookie dough cupcakes.

Piece of Baby Ruth candy bar in the batter

Unfortunately, I didn’t take into consideration that the heat from the oven would melt the chocolate and caramel, thus causing it to stick to the bottom of the wrapper. Ooops.

With a piece of Baby Ruth in the center and on top.

I’m pretty sure my coworkers will still eat them.

As you probably did not notice, although I feel the need to share anyway, I now have a Flickr account solely for this blog, which can be found here. This means each recipe is sorted into its own set, and all sets of the same type of recipe are all part of a collection. Did that make sense? Maybe this will make it easier. Yes, I am slightly obsessive when it comes to organizing things.

I’ve moved most of my baking pictures over, but I am still in the process of adding captions and recipe links, so in the meantime, all of the previous posts still link to the pictures on the old Flickr stream.

That is all.

Your Turn

So I’m a little curious about the people who visit this blog regularly. Tell me about yourselves! Where do you live? What do you do? Are you married? Have kids? Have you tried any recipes on my blog? If so, what did you think? And finally, do you have a recipe (or a nice Jewish boy) for me?

Excuses, Excuses

Why I haven’t been trying new recipes lately:

Organized Chaos Pretty [Yummy]

Recipe Index

I installed a plugin that created a recipe index for this blog. You can now see a list of recipes by category without having to scroll through a big mess. I’m still tweaking the HTML and trying to adjust the spacing but hope to have it fixed soon. Enjoy!

I’m Still Here

I just haven’t tried any new recipes lately. However, I have gotten my baking business started.

I know I don’t need to apologize for the lack of new posts, but I feel badly when I don’t update this blog. So here’s a non-recipe update for ya. I know, total cop out post. Anyway, I’m hoping to try a new cupcake recipe this week and will post about it if it actually happens. (Life has been busy!) If I don’t get to it, there won’t be any recipes until after Passover because really, I have no new Passover recipes to try; I think we’ve found all the good ones. Speaking of Passover recipes, if that’s what you’re looking for, they’re over here. The matzo brittle and apple crisp are my family’s faves.

Have a good Pesach/Easter!

New Recipes Soon

I know, I’m long overdue for a post. I wanted to pop on and say I haven’t forgotten about this blog, I just haven’t had time to bake–fun dates with a cute-guy-turned-frog and a trip to NYC have kept me busy! I’m hoping to find time to bake this weekend, and it will probably be some type of cookie, so stay tuned!

Also, a quick hello to everyone who got here via the epi-log.

New Feature–Recipe Ratings

[ratings]

I installed a plugin that will allow me (and you) to rate the recipes I post. It’s simple–just choose the number of stars you think a recipe deserves, the rating will refresh, then it will display. Feel free to test it out on this post.

Before I add this to all the posts, I wanted to see if anyone notices any problems. I thought the page was loading slowly, but my Internet connection at home is all messed up. Let me know if you find any issues with it!

Mmm, Popsicles

There won’t be any new posts until the new year as I’m finally getting my tonsils out on Tuesday. It’s been six months of chronic Strep, and I am beyond excited to start the new year sans infection.

In the meantime, please tell me any of the following:

  • How did you find your way to my blog?
  • Have you tried any of the recipes I’ve posted, and if so, which did you like or not like?
  • Do you have a favorite recipe you think I’d like, and if so, please share it.

Happy Holidays!

Just A Note

I’m still here, I promise!

I’ve been sick with chronic Strep and tonsillitis lately so I haven’t been doing any baking. If the results of my latest Strep test are negative, I’ll have a tonsillectomy on November 21 which means you can expect new recipes again sometime in December. In the meantime, I’ll be eating lots of popsicles and looking at yummy stuff I can’t eat.

Okay, scratch that. The Strep came back which means my surgery has been postponed to December 19. Stay tuned for new recipes soon, as long as I am feeling well.

Apples and Honey

I probably won’t be trying any new recipes again until after the high holidays, so I wanted to wish my fellow Jewish readers a happy, healthy, and sweet new year. Shana tova!

Printable Recipes

I installed a plugin that should allow you to print recipes by clicking on Print This Post at the bottom of each post. Of course, this was so simple to install that I’m pretty sure it won’t work properly. And unfortunately, I don’t have a printer at home to test it out tonight. So, if anyone happens to try it, let me know how it works.

Update: I noticed that the Print This Post link is only available when looking at posts on the main page. It won’t work if you get to the post via the archives or categories. I’ll look into this.

Another Chance to Win Cupcakes

Because my last header image contest was such a huge success (thanks Maria!), I decided to do it again, this time for my baking blog. Here are the details:

Size: 762 x 190 px

Format: gif file

The look: I’m probably going to end up using the same template I’m using for my other blog, but with different colors and the new header. And feel free to use any of the baking photos I have on Flickr.

Colors: Totally open.

Text: Nosh With Me and One girl’s love affair with her KitchenAid mixer.

Deadline: Friday, August 4.

Prize: A dozen cookies or cupcakes. If I’m mailing them to you, you’ll probably get cookies as I haven’t yet experimented with mailing cupcakes.

Let me know if you want to enter!

Update: Send entries to nosh at noshwithme.com!

New Name, New Address

Yep, I moved again. This time it’s permanent…I promise!

Stay tuned for the new look too.

Questions

I’m not sure how many people read this regularly, so I have no idea if I’ll get any responses, but here goes:

  • Do you have any recipes that look fun but haven’t had a chance to try? If so, what are they? I’m always looking for new ones.
  • Do you find the pictures of the baking process beneficial or should I just post one of the final product?
  • Have you tried any of the recipes on here? If so, which did you try and how did it turn out?

And of course, if you have anything else to share, I’d love to hear it!
